Overview

TSS semiconductor discharge tubes, or crowbar protection components, are semiconductor devices used to protect circuits from high voltage or surge damage. These components are commonly used in telecommunication networks, digital line cards, subscriber line interface cards (SLICs), and other electronic devices to prevent transient overvoltages from damaging the equipment.

Main functions of TSS

  • Voltage clamping: When the transient voltage is too high, the thyristor can quickly switch from the blocking state to the conducting state, thereby limiting the voltage rise and avoiding damage to the circuit.
  • Current drift control: The thyristor has a low voltage drop characteristic in the conducting state, which can control the overload current and prevent the equipment from being damaged by excessive current.

Advantages of TSS

  • Long-term stability: Thyristors have no aging phenomenon and have a longer service life.
  • Start-up characteristics: There is no parasitic oscillation or ringing sound at startup, and the interference to the circuit is small.
  • Low gate trigger current: Reduce the current consumption on the printed circuit board during the ignition stage and improve efficiency.
