What are the applications of discrete devices in AC Charger?

Bella 11 months ago

The applications of discrete devices in AC chargers generally include power management, voltage regulation, rectification and protection.

  • Rectification
AC power needs to be converted to DC power, and discrete diodes or bridge rectifiers are often used in this process. The bridge rectifier converts the positive and negative half cycles of the AC power source into a single DC output for charging the device.
  • Filtering
After rectification, the output current will present a fluctuating DC signal (pulsating DC). To smooth out these fluctuations, a filtering circuit consisting of discrete capacitors and inductors is usually required. Which can smooth the current into a more stable DC power, reducing noise and fluctuations during the charging process.
  • Voltage Regulator
Voltage regulation is the key to ensuring that the charger output voltage is stable. Discrete devices (such as Zener diodes, field effect transistors, etc.) can be used to provide a stable output voltage to ensure that the voltage does not fluctuate too much during the battery charging process.
  • Overvoltage and overcurrent protection
In order to ensure the safety of the equipment, discrete devices are often used to implement overvoltage protection and overcurrent protection.
  • Switch control
Some AC chargers may use MOSFET or BJT transistors as switching elements, and control the switching frequency of the power supply through pulse width modulation (PWM), thereby adjusting the output power and performing efficient energy conversion.

Summary
Discrete devices play many roles in AC chargers, including rectification, filtering, voltage regulation, protection, switch control, etc. By properly designing and selecting these devices, the efficiency, reliability and safety of the charger can be improved.
