ESD Protection for Automotive Infotainment USB 3.2, HDMI and LVDS

2023-11-11 155

Overview

Semiware’s ESD protection technology provides your designs with an ideal combination of low capacitance, low clamping voltage and high ESD robustness to help protect 10 Gbps data line systems in automotive applications from ESD and surge events.

Three pillar factors for optimizing ESD protection:

1. Low capacitance as low as 0.2 pF enables high signal integrity

2. Low clamping and triggering provide enhanced system protection as low as 0.4Ω(Rdyn)

3. High robustness withstands ESD up to 15 kV and surges up to 7 A (at 8/20 μs)

Functions and applications

› Automotive infotainment applications: USB 2.0, SuperSpeed USB 3.2 (10 Gps), HDMI, HDBaseT

› Automotive A/V monitors, displays and cameras

› SerDes: GMSL, FPD-Link, LVDS, APIX

Main features

› Available in specifications between 3.3 V and 5 V VRWM

› Extremely fast switching times below 1 ns

› Achieves very low clamping voltages

› Suitable for up to 10Gbps per wire pair

› Reliable protection for sensitive transceiver SoCs

› Ultra-low dynamic resistance/capacitance combination

› Exceeds IEC61000-4-2 level 4 and provides IEC61000-4-5 level robustness

› Available in leaded and leadless packages SOT23 and DFN2510.

Product portfolio for high-speed data lines

Our protection circuits consist of two subsets of devices that can be used together or separately:

› Extremely high surge robustness device designed to be placed between the connector and the AC capacitor to protect the decoupling capacitor and transceiver from possible peak pulses (up to 20 A).

› Extremely low peak voltage devices designed to be placed between the capacitor and the device, providing industry-leading low trigger voltages to maximize system-level protection (Vt1 as low as 3.5 V).

It is recommended that protection devices from these two subsets be used together to achieve excellent ESD protection.

Semiware’s ESD protection device parts feature extremely low capacitance to ensure high signal integrity, as well as extremely low clamping voltage and high robustness for new automotive interfaces. Specific automotive applications include automotive infotainment systems, multimedia and ADAS systems using USB 2.0, HDMI, LVDS, SerDes and SD card interfaces. With product capacitance as low as 0.2 pF and a clamping voltage of only 1.5 V, the device can withstand surges and ESD pulses up to 7 A 8/20 µs. This performance is industry leading in all aspects and is available in the extensively proven SOT23 and DFN2510 packages.
